getting there

Many paths lead to us.

In short: Airport - Marina Koukounaries - Katigioris - Peli Kastri
1. From the airport you have to go to the port of Koukounaries (pronounced: Kukunari’es). This can be done by bus or taxi (more on this below).

2. In Koukounaries: Take the Skiathos Water Taxi to Katigiorgis. Costs, 1-3 people from/to Katigiorgis = € 60,-- each additional person € 20,-- Costs 1-4 from/to Platanias = € 120,--, each additional person € 25,-- (as of February 3, 2023)
Caution: During off-peak times, before 8 a.m. and after 6 p.m., you can expect to pay around € 110.
Please let us know when you have landed or arrived at the water taxi (if there is a delay) so that we can be in Katigioris in time to pick you up!

3. We will pick you up in Katigiorgis and take you to the Peli Kastri Guesthouse.

By bus from Skiathos airport to Koukounaries
The bus ride from the airport takes about 30 minutes.
It says Κουκουναριές (Koukounaries) on the front - and currently costs €3 (as of June 2023) When boarding, MUST ask the driver if you need to change in Skiathos Town (after 1 stop) You can find the current timetable here, as well as ticket information: Routes - Συγκοινωνίες Σκιάθου (skiathostransports.gr)
For an overview: The route of the bus is Airport - Koukounaries (total, 26 stops - it's best to get off at stop 22 "Skiathos Palace Hotel", there the steps down to the marina)

By taxi from Skiathos airport to Koukounaries
There are taxis at the airport, if there aren't any, wait a moment or order one. Especially in the high season from June to the beginning of September, it helps to pre-order at home or to do as the Greeks do and stay relaxed. Taxi Houtos: +30 697 774 18 81
The price for the route is between 20 and 30 euros, depending on the season, and don't be surprised, sometimes other people are already in the taxi or get in if there is still space. The taxi drivers have an overview, which makes sense... everything is not so strict in Greece, which is what makes it so charming and cozy.

The most relaxed option is certainly with a rental car, also because with the latter you are free to visit wonderful areas of Pelion. For the more adventurous, we have also listed public transport options.

rental car
The easiest and cheapest way is to rent a car at Volos airport. There are standard car rental companies at all airports.

If you take a rental car:
Peli Kastri is located directly on the beach of Kastri, in the very south of the Pelion Peninsula, not far from Platanias and Katigiorgis. Please remember that there are some toll stations along the way. It is advisable to have change or a debit card ready.
It applies max. 120km/h on the highway.

Directions
By car from Volos – approx. 60km, travel time approx. 1 ½ hours:
From the airport, simply follow the A1/E75 until you reach Exit 12 Volou Larisas/A12/E92/EO6 towards Volos/Velestino. In Volos the E92. When the E92 ends, turn left towards Agria/Kala Nera onto the main road (34, EO Volu Neochoriou), heading south until Aragalasti. Signs are in Greek and Latin script. (If you want to educate yourself in Greek: Αργαλαστή) In Argalasti you have to have more or Drive less straight until you reach an intersection that is larger for the area come. There turn slightly left towards Platanias and the road Follow the sign “Kastri/Kastriou/PELI KASTRI”. Follow the signs and when you are by the sea, you are with us.

Taxi
Alternatively, you can take a taxi from Volos to Kastri. Costs: approx. € 70 per car (for 4 people therefore € 18 per person). To save something, you can take the bus into the city. To save something, you can take the bus into the city.

The most relaxed option is certainly with a transfer or your own rental car, also because you are free with the latter to visit wonderful areas of Pelion. For the more adventurous, we also have listed public transport options.

Directions
By car from Thessaloniki (SKG) to Kastri, 294km, estimated travel time 4 ½ hours
At the airport, first drive towards Thessaloniki (67) and then continue on A/D Thessalonikis Neon Moudanion (24), at Exit 12 towards Ring Road. Then the exit direction Take Εύοσμος/Ευκαρπία/Evosmos/Efkarpia and continue on the esoterica Drive periferiaki Roundabout 1st exit A/D Pireos Athinon Thessalonikis Evzonon/NEO Athinon Thessalonikis take direction Athina, then A1, E75 to Follow exit EO6 Volos. Continue south on the E92 until Sipiada. When the E92 ends, turn left towards Agria/Kala Nera onto the 34. In Argalasti you have to drive more or less straight through, until you come to an intersection that is larger for the area. Public transportation
From Thessaloniki Airport (SKG) a bus runs every 20 minutes and takes 50 minutes to Thessaloniki bus station, from where a bus goes to Volos about every two hours and arrives there in two and a half hours (reservation advisable - the site can if you click on it goes back to Greek, can be set back to English at the top right):

Once you arrive in Volos you can take a taxi to Kastri. Costs: approx. €70 per car (for 4 people therefore €18 per person).
The bus ends in Volos here, near the port: "Astiko K.T.E.L Volou S.A., Korai 56, 383 33 Volos" (astikovolou.gr), taxis are usually on site (there are also various car rental companies, such as Hertz or Aegean) .

If you land in Athens (and don't have a connecting flight to Skiathos, Thessaloniki or Volos), we actually recommend taking a rental car. The route leads via Volos to Kastri.
